The 2023/24 Premier League finished with Manchester City winning their fourth consecutive title to exhibit their dominance in England. Pep Guardiola’s men were unable to secure the double after losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup final with Liverpool lifting the League Cup in Jürgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.
It was another thrilling season in the top-flight of English football with a record number of goals scored (1246) scored in the competition’s history. Erling Haaland won the golden boot again after scoring 27 goals while a number of talented youngsters emerged as household names. Transfermarkt revealed their final market value update of the season on Monday with Phil Foden rising to become the fourth most valuable player in the world and we’ve analysed which players enjoyed the biggest market value rises across the 23/24 season.
Cole Palmer + €65m
Palmer enjoyed a sensational debut campaign after moving to Chelsea from Man City and he enjoyed the biggest market value rise across the Premier League season. Palmer provided 33 goal contributions in 34 league games for Chelsea and he finished second in the golden boot race behind Haaland. Only Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe had more goal contributions than Palmer across the top five leagues and the 22-year-old was arguably the best player in the Premier League.
Kobbie Mainoo +€49.2m
Mainoo’s winning goal in the FA Cup was the icing on the cake of a stunning breakthrough season. The midfielder won man of the match on his first Man United start against Everton in November and his career has skyrocketed since then. Mainoo made his international debut in March and he’s destined to feature for England at Euro 2024. The 19-year-old plays with a maturity beyond his years and his market value has increased from €800k to €50 million since the start of the season.
Phil Foden +€40m
Foden confirmed his reputation as one of the best players in the world during a scintillating season fro the champions. Foden was instrumental as City won their fourth consecutive title and he scored 27 goals and provided 12 goals in all competitions. Now valued at €150m, Foden is only behind Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham in our most valuable players list.
Jérémy Doku +€37m
Doku arrived at Man City from Rennes for €60m in the summer with his market value at just €28m. His valuation increased to €60m to reflect the transfer fee and he received another €5m rise as a result of his impressive performances. Doku provided 17 goal contributions in 45 games for City and he’s been in a direct battle with Jack Grealish for a starting berth on the left wing.
Murillo +€34.5m
Murillo has emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League after shining for Nottingham Forest. The Brazilian joined Forest for €12m from Corinthians in the summer and his market value has increased by €34.5m from €500k to €35m since the Premier League season. At 21, Murillo will have admirers across Europe, especially as a left-footed centre-back and Forest will do well to keep him this summer.
