Bargain deal?

The transfer window closed on Monday for the vast majority of European leagues. While some countries have extended windows – Türkiye’s stays open until January 11th – the majority of clubs have completed their business until the summer. Senior club officials will already be planning and budgeting for the summer window but some could still add players before then.
There are numerous players still without clubs and they can be signed without a transfer fee as free agents. They could represent attractive options short-term deals if clubs aren’t totally satisfied with their business or to provide cover if any injuries are sustained. Some household names are still looking for a new club and we’ve analysed the most valuable free agents on the market.
Three players still without a club are valued at €4 million on Transfermarkt – Alexandru Mățan, Daniel Amartey and Wissam Ben Yedder. Matan was released by MLS side Columbus Crew in November while Amartey departed Besiktas in September. While former France international Ben Yedder remains without a club, Venezia are closing in on a deal to sign the 34-year-old.
Ryan Kent is still searching for a new club since leaving Fenerbahce last season and he’s been perennially linked with a return to Rangers. Brandon Williams appeared to have a bright future when he emerged as Manchester United but he’s been without a club since leaving Old Trafford last summer. The most decorated current free agent is undoubtedly Sergio Ramos with the former Real Madrid captain expected to join Mexican side Monterrey imminently.
