Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Saudi Pro League. After only joining this winter, Jhon Durán remains the most valuable player in the Saudi first division. Altogether, 52 players were part of the intermediary update. Among the big winners is Mexican forward Julián Quiñones. Signed for €13.8m by Al-Qadsiah from Club América, Quiñones saw his market value increase from €1m to €10m.
With a market value of €40m, Durán remains first ahead of his former Aston Villa teammate Moussa Diaby (€35m), who now plays for Al-Ittihad. The biggest winner of the update is Kaio César from Al-Hilal. The Brazilian saw his market value increase from €3m to €5m. The 21-year-old right winger joined the Saudi club from Vitoria Guimarães in a deal worth €9m and has since scored three goals in six league games.
“The biggest positive of the transfer is the future,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Asia Tiberius Radziejewski said. “Although he is already one of the key players in a star-studded attacking setup, Kaio César needs to confirm his significant price tag. Only then will his market value increase even further.”
Another young player with a market value increase is João Costa, whose market value increased from €1m to €2.5m. The Brazilian joined Al-Ettifaq from AS Roma in a deal worth €9m last summer and has been a regular starter since the turn of the year. “It wasn’t an easy start to the season for João Costa under head coach Steven Gerrard,” Radziejewski said. “But under new head coach Al-Shehri, the situation has improved, and he is now a crucial player for the seventh-placed team in the league.”
The player with the biggest drop is Georgiy Bushchan from Al-Shabab. The Ukrainian arrived in a deal worth €3m from Dynamo Kyiv this winter. The Ukrainian saw his market value drop from €7m to €6m. His teammate Yannick Carrasco is also among the players with a significant market value drop, with a minus of €500,000 to now €7.5m. Another player with a €500,000 drop is former Sevilla goalkeeper Bono. The Al-Hilal keeper now has a market value of €6.5m.
As this is an intermediary update, there were no significant changes. The Saudi Pro League confirmed its overall value of just above €1 billion. The biggest winners were promoted side Al-Qadsiah (€67m) and Al-Ettifaq (€42m), who increased their respective market values by 3%. The most valuable teams remain Al-Hilal (€180m) ahead of Al-Nassr (€176m).
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
