“The most used word in the dressing room in the last days is Remontada”. The message from Jude Bellingham and his Real Madrid teammates has been clear in the build-up to their second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal tonight – comeback. The Champions League holders trail 3-0 from the first-leg in North London and they’ll require a herculean performance at the Santiago Bernabeu to avoid elimination.
Madrid are the kings of the European Cup with 15 titles and they’ve produced some unthinkable comebacks in the competition. But they’ve never recovered from a three-goal first-leg deficit and Arsenal are massive favourites to progress into the last four. Mikel Arteta’s men have only conceded six goals in 11 Champions League games this season and Declan Rice inspired them to a famous win in the first leg last week with two outstanding free-kicks. Some of the best players in the world will take to the pitch in Madrid tonight but which stars make the most valuable combined XI? Let’s find out – only players that are available tonight are included.
The combined market value of the XI stands at €1.19bn and tonight’s game could become the most valuable in history. The front three of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappé and Bukayo Saka are amongst the top ten most valuable players in the world – as is Bellingham, who ranks fourth at €180m.
As the graphic above illustrates, Bellingham is joined in midfield by Madrid teammate Federico Valverde and England colleague Rice. Three Arsenal players form the back four and it would be a full Gunners backline, if Gabriel was fit. William Saliba is the joint-most valuable defender in the world at €80m and he’s been strongly linked with a move to Madrid. David Raya takes the goalkeeper spot with Thibaut Courtois valued at €15m lower than the Arsenal number one.
