Paris Saint Germain have reportedly rejected an initial offer for Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United. Reputable French outlet L’Equipe broke the news on Tuesday afternoon that the English giants are interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer.
United have targeted signing a new central midfielder this summer with serious doubts over Casemiro’s future. It’s understood that an initial approach was rebuffed from PSG and it’s uncertain whether United will return with an improved offer. Ugarte made 37 appearances for PSG in all competitions last season and he’s currently part of the Uruguay squad at Copa America.
How much is Manuel Ugarte worth?
Ugarte only joined PSG from Sporting CP last summer for €60.00m after the French giants seen off competition from Chelsea for his signature. The midfielder had a market value of €50 million when he joined the Ligue 1 champions but his market value dropped by €5m to €54m across the course of the 2023/24. It’s been reported that PSG are willing to offload Ugarte this summer but they’d be determined to recoup the fee that they paid Sporting for his services last summer.

Ugarte is a defensive midfielder and he excels at breaking up play before supplying the more attack minded players. Capped 16 times by Uruguay, Ugarte played the ninth most minutes amongst PSG’s squad last season and was utlisied more than Fabian Ruiz. United will badly need a more defensive minded midfielder to replace Casemiro as the Brazilian is expected to be sold this summer. Sofyan Amrabat is unlikely to return to Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag needs someone to complement Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
