Headed to France

Jordan Henderson has reportedly had a move to AS Monaco blocked by Ajax. The 34-year-old was rumoured to be on the verge of joining the French club on a contract until June 2026, according to Fabrizio Romano. But reputable Dutch outlet De Telegraaf has subsequently reported that Ajax have blocked the move as technical director Alex Kroes believes he’s too important as they chase the title.
Henderson was widely criticised for leaving Liverpool to join Al-Ettifaq in July 2023 and he lasted just six months in Saudi. The former England international moved to Ajax last January on a free after agreeing to terminate his contract with AL-Ettifaq – then managed by former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. Henderson has made 43 appearances in the Netherlands with Ajax currently second in the Eredivisie table – only four points of top place PSV with a game in hand. Monaco are currently third in Ligue 1 and they also ensured a Champions League last 16 play-off place after finishing 17th in the league phase. They wanted to sign Henderson to provide guidance to their younger players but it appears the deal is off.
The former Sunderland star captained Liverpool to glory in the Champions League and English Premier League and he admitted he regretted leaving Anfield for Saudi. “I now realise that football runs through my blood,” Henderson told Dutch outlet Parool last year. The Saudi league is developing but it doesn’t suit me, I made a mistake going there. I am happy here at the Ajax project.”
