The biggest winners and losers from Premier League market value update

Haaland at €200m 

On October 1st, Transfermarkt’s intermediate English Premier League update was released with some headline news catching the eye. 115 players had their market values adjusted with the total value of the players in the most valuable league in the world increasing by €167 million to €11.72 billion. After a scintillating start to the season with ten league goals in six games, Erling Haaland became the outright most valuable player in the world at €200m.

Haaland was previously level with Real Madrid trio Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé but the Manchester City striker now holds that title to himself. Haaland enjoyed the biggest market value increase of any player in the Premier League but who else was rewarded for their form? And conversely, which Premier League stars dropped most in value in the most recent update? Let’s find out!

The biggest winners from the Premier League market value update

Haaland’s €20m rise in market value was the highest across the Premier League with the Norwegian only the second player to reach the €200m landmark in history – Mbappé achieved it in 2018 with PSG. Haaland remarkably arrived at City in 2022 for just €60m due to a clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract but his market value has soared from €150m to €200m across this period. Jhon Durán has been the surprise package in the Premier League this season with four goals from the bench in the league for Aston Villa.

The Midlands club rebuffed serious interest in Duran this summer and the Colombian’s value has increased by €15m to €35m. As the graphic above illustrates, Duran is joined by Aston Villa teammate Morgan Rogers in the top ten with the England U21 international arguably their best performer this season. Yankuba Minteh and Omari Hutchison both earned big moves this summer and their valuations have both been significantly upgraded while Cole Palmer has maintained his incredible form from his debut season at Chelsea.

The players with the biggest downgrades from the Premier League market value update

Five players had their market values downgraded by €10m in the recent update. Matheus Nunes takes top spot as the Manchester City midfielder had the biggest percentage drop in value of 20% with his current valuation now €20m. Three Brazilians received a €10m downgrade in Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Lucas Paqueta, as did Manchester United’s summer signing Matthijs de Ligt. It’s been a dismal start to the Premier League season for Erik ten Hag’s men with Casemiro and Antony also featuring in the top ten.
