So far at Euro 2024, we have seen younger breakthrough stars such as Spain’s Lamine Yamal or Germany’s Jamal Musiala light it up on the biggest stage. However, we’ve also seen the value in experience, as many older heads have been crucial in guiding their nations through. Toni Kroos has been the midfield hub for the hosts, at 41 years old, Pepe has been a rock for Portugal, whilst Granit Xhaka’s midfield performances have been vital to Switzerland making the quarter-finals.

Typically as players reach the twilight of their career’s their market value drops. Once a player hits 30 years old ordinarily clubs are unlikely to splash out lucrative transfer fees, as they would probably not see any of that investment back. Some players are slight exceptions to the rule, and here at Transfermarkt, we have put together a list of the most valuable players aged 30 or over.

Leading the way is England and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, who, at 30 years old, still boasts a market value of €100 million. That’s almost double the amount of any other player aged 30 or over. The England captain was signed for €95m last summer, and went on to score 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games in his first season in Munich. With his goalscoring record so consistent and with Kane not reliant on pace, he does defy his age in terms of market value, but you can probably expect his value to start gradually dropping soon. He will be 31 next month.

In second place is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who at 32 years of age is still worth €55m. The Egyptian has been strongly linked with a big money move to Saudi Arabia over the last 18 months or so. In third with a market value of €50m is Brazilian PSG centre-back Marquinhos, who only turned 30 back in May. He’s followed by Kevin De Bruyne who turned 33 last Friday but remains worth €50m. Then it’s 30-year-old Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Tottenham’s 31-year-old forward Heung-Min Son who both have a market value of €45m.

In seventh is 30-year-old England and Man City defender John Stones with a market value of €38m, and then another Sky Blue in eighth – 30-year-old keeper Ederson valued at €35m. They are followed by Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo De Paul – the 30 year old midfielder, currently competing at Copa América with Argentina is worth €30m. Completing the top 10 is another Man City player in Mateo Kovacic who at 30 years old is also worth €30m.
