The January transfer market is now officially open, with clubs across Europe looking to get deals over the line to enhance their squads for the second half of the season. Teams are already working tirelessly behind the scenes on identifying targets to sign or loan.
Managers will be constantly assessing their squads with sporting directors and recruitment staff scanning the market for potential deals in the market. A plethora of players will be unhappy with their lack of minutes, with their agents aiming to secure them a move to ensure first-team football for the second half of the season. The rumour mill is beginning to pick up pace and we’ve collated some of the biggest current transfer stories.
Reports suggest Manchester United will try to sign Sweden striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting this month in a bid to save their season, but a deal is expected to cost the Red Devils around €95 million. No player in Europe’s top-ten leagues scored more goals for club and country across 2024 than Gyökeres’ 62.
Arsenal reportedly lead the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush amid interest also coming from Liverpool, Paris St-Germain and AC Milan. The 25 year old has 13 Bundesliga goals in 15 matches this season, and has a current market value of €60m.
Turkish giants Galatasaray are reportedly in talks with Paris St-Germain over a deal to sign Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar on loan this January with an option to buy in the summer.
