After the Premier League received its intermediate update on Tuesday, Spain’s LaLiga becomes the second top league to receive new market values. Altogether, 153 players received new market values. Among the top players, Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid), Pedri (Barcelona), and Julián Alvarez (Atlético Madrid) are among the winners of the update.
Three top stars, three upgrades. That’s undoubtedly the headline. For two of them, it is a step up after a recent downgrade. Mbappé, after seeing his market value drop from €180m to €160m earlier this season, is now back in the ascendancy with a minor upgrade to €170m. “Mbappé is still somewhat removed from his top level, but you can tell that he has stabilized his performances and has recently been a difference maker for Real Madrid,” Transfermarkt Market Value Coordinator Spain Tobias Blaseio said. “But there are still too many games in which he completely disappears. Despite that, his development is positive, and a small market value upgrade is deserved.”

The other player with an upgrade after seeing his market value drop earlier this season is Alvarez. The former Man City striker saw his market value decline to €80m after joining Atlético Madrid from Man City earlier this season. “In the beginning, the striker had visible problems playing in Diego Simeone’s system but then improved step-by-step and has been playing at a high level for several months now,” Blaseio said. His new market value of €90m might be a first step as he has now reached the level he had at Man City. “If he continues to play like this, a market value of €100m isn’t unrealistic,” Blaseio added.

Market values Barcelona – Pedri up to €120m – Mamardashvili downgraded
Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, Barcelona have been playing some of the best football in Europe. In LaLiga, the Catalans are in a tight title race with Real Madrid, and in the Champions League, Barça are certainly among the favorites. The player that has benefited the most from the club’s consistency is Pedri. “His skills have been well known for some time and also been missed at Barça,” Blaseio said. “But now he has been mostly injury-free and has played accordingly. His contract renewal in Barcelona until 2030 underlines his status.”

Pedri saw his market value increase by 20% from €100m to now €120m. Also up by 20% is Alejandro Balde from €50m to €60m. But there have also been some downgrades among Barcelona’s top stars. The most prominent example is Gavi. The Barcelona midfielder saw his market value drop by -€10m from €80m to now €70m. The other top player with a downgrade is Ronald Araujo, who dropped by -€5m from €55m to now €50m. Elsewhere, the player with the biggest upgrade from the entire update was Real Madrid center-back Raúl Asencio, who saw his value shoot up from €7.5m to €30m following his emergence for Los Blancos this season.
There was also one prominent downgrade in Valencia. Giorgi Mamardashvil was once considered among the brightest talents in European football. In fact, Premier League side Liverpool have already signed the Georgian national keeper as a medium-term replacement for Alisson. This season, however, Mamardashvili highlighted that he might not entirely be ready for the job in Liverpool. “Valencia are currently stuck in the relegation battle, and he isn’t showing the most consistent season,” Blaseio said. “At times, he isn’t the most secure, which isn’t his standard. Not playing internationally with Valencia is another factor. It will be interesting to see what he can do in Liverpool.” With that in mind, Mamardashvili saw his market value downgraded by 25% from €40m to now €30m.

LaLiga market values: Buchanan downgraded – Rodríguez a player to watch
Meanwhile, in Villarreal, Canadian men’s national team winger Tajon Buchanan continues to seek his club form. Signed on loan from Inter Milan this winter, Buchanan saw his market value drop from €8m to €6m. “Buchanan has played just 100 minutes since he arrived on loan,” Blaseio said. “At least he got a start against Real Madrid. On the wing, he is struggling to play time with Yeremy Pino, which means he is mostly an option from the bench.” Another issue is that Villarreal isn’t playing in Europe, so there isn’t much rotation in the squad. “He will have to fight for his playing time.”

A more positive story is currently unfolding at Real Betis, where Jesús Rodríguez is turning into a real star. “He was a late call-up for Spain’s U21, which was well deserved,” Blaseio said. “The winger is already becoming a favorite among the fans, who have celebrated his performances with standing ovations. A regular starter, the winger is already being compared with club legend Joaquín, who ended his career after 622 LaLiga games two years ago.” Rodríguez is now pushing into that void, and Transfermarkt has upgraded his market value by 1000% from €1m to €10m.

How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm ( you can find the detailed market value definition here ).
