Harry Kane is on a remarkable scoring run from the penalty spot for club and country. The England captain scored twice from the spot in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Friday night. Remarkably, Kane’s two successful penalties against Bremen were his 28th and 29th successful conversions in a row from 12-yards, which represents a record.
There has famously been some expert penalty takers over the years with Matt Le Tissier and Leighton Baines amongst the best to ply their trade in the English Premier League. Meanwhile, Alessandro Del Piero and Marco van Basten were also renowned with their accuracy from the spot. And who can forget Rogerio Ceni, the Brazilian goalkeeper that scored 47 penalties across his incredible career. Kane reigns supreme in top spot after converting his last 29 penalties in all competitions. The 31-year-old hasn’t missed from the spot since famously blazing over the bar for England as they were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup by France. Remarkably, Kane has scored 22 penalties since leaving Tottenham for Bayern in the summer of 2023 and he’s scored nine in the Bundesliga.
As the graphic above illustrates, Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku both scored 26 penalties in a row during their careers. Lukaku has scored 40 penalties and missed seven across his career with the Napoli striker scoring from the spot on three occasions this season. Pierre van Hooijdonk and Robert Lewandowski complete the top five with Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos joint-eight after scoring an impressive 23 consecutive penalties during his career.

According to Transfermarkt data, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the most penalties since 2000 with 182 with Barcelona icon Lionel Messi ranking third. Kane ranks fifth overall but Lewandowski has the better conversion rate of 90% compared to 89%. Furthermore, Lewandowski’s conversion rate of any player is superior to any of the players in the top ten graphic below.
