A new year is upon us with 2025 poised to be another thriller in the world of football but it will be difficult to eclipse 2024. There was so much drama and excitement across the previous calendar year with two major international tournaments sandwiched between the club campaign.
Lamine Yamal emerged as an undisputed superstar as the Barcelona starlet inspired Spain to glory at Euro 2024 and Lionel Messi added yet another honour to his glittering trophy cabinet when Argentina lifted the Copa America. It was a landmark year for a plethora of household names but which player scored the most goals in 2024? We’ve analysed the data from players across the top ten leagues in all club competitions and international games to provide the results!
Viktor Gyökeres has earned interest from European football’s biggest clubs after his phenomenal goalscoring form for Sporting CP. No player scored more goals in 2024 than the 26-year-old with Gyökeres scoring an incredible 62 goals in 63 appearances for club and country – 52 for Sporting and 10 for Sweden. As the graphic below illustrates, Erling Haaland ranks second with 49 goals in 59 games as the Norwegian international fired Manchester City to a fourth consecutive English Premier League title.
Harry Kane takes third spot with 46 goals in 57 games for Bayern Munich and England with Robert Lewandowski still scoring at an impressive rate in his mid-thirties. Jonathan David completes the top five and the Lille striker is in high demand with his contract at the Ligue 1 side expiring in the summer. Real Madrid duo Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr feature in the top ten as does Mohamed Salah with the Egyptian in incredible form for Liverpool.
