Excitement levels are building ahead of Euro 2024. It all gets underway on Friday night as hosts Germany face Scotland in Munich. Hundreds of thousands of supporters from across Europe will descend upon Germany for the month long festival of football. 24 nations will participate in the 17th edition of the European Championships but Italy are highly unlikely to retain their crown.
Some of the biggest players on the planet will be competing in Germany with Kylian Mbappé aiming to lead France to glory after sealing his protracted move to Real Madrid. France will be amongst the favourites alongside England, Portugal and Germany. Can Cristiano Ronaldo enjoy an international swansong? Will Jude Bellingham shine on the biggest stage or will Florian Wirtz emerge as the star of the tournament? All will be revealed across the next month but we’ve assessed the most valuable squads at Euro 2024 based on Transfermarkt’s market values.
England have the most valuable squad at the tournament with the combined market value of their 26 players standing at €1.52 billion. Gareth Southgate has five players at his disposal with valuations of €100 million or higher – Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Bellingham. England’s squad will be the envy of many nations but despite a vast array of talent, they’ve been unable to win a tournament since 1966 and they will be under immense pressure to deliver.
As the graphic above illustrates, France ranks second for most valuable squads at the Euro with Mbappé their most valuable player at €180m. Mbappé will link up with Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga at Real Madrid and the midfield duo are France’s two other players valued at €100m or higher. The only other nation with a squad value eclipsing the €1b mark is Portugal but Ronaldo is no longer their star player. The 39-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter and the legendary attacker has the sixth lowest market value in the Portuguese squad at €15m. While Portugal have no players valued in excess of €100m but Rúben Dias, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva remain top-level players.
Spain are viewed as massive outsiders for the tournament but they have the fourth most valuable squad (€966m) with Rodri their most valuable star at €120m while 16-year-old Lamine Yamal (€90m) is one to watch. Germany are dark horses to reach the latter stages on home soil and they have the 5th most valuable squad (€851m) with Wirtz (€130m) and Jamal Musiala (€120m) tipped to be amongst the stars of the tournament. Albania’s squad has the lowest combined market value at the tournament of €112m.
