The final Premier League market value update of 2024 landed on December 16, with 115 players receiving updated market values. Despite the total value of the league dropping by €11.5 million, the English top-flight remains comfortably the most valuable in the world at an eye-watering €11.75 billion.
No club lost more value than Manchester City (-€71m), while Chelsea’s squad value increased the most (€53.5m). Numbers Premier League stars were rewarded for their excellent form this season with Cole Palmer handed the biggest upgrade. The 22-year-old’s valuation increased by €40 million, from €90m to €130m to cement his reputation as one of the best players in the Premier League. But which players moved in the opposite direction? Several big name players received downgrades and we’ve analysed those players.
Two players received the biggest market value downgrades of €15m – Christopher Nkunku and Lucas Paquetá. Despite scoring 12 goals in 22 games, Nkunku has predominantly been used in the Europa Conference League and he’s firmly behind Nicolas Jackson in the pecking order. Meanwhile, Paqueta’s performances have dropped off considerably with West Ham struggling under Julian Lopategui.
Raheem Sterling’s loan move from Chelsea to Arsenal hasn’t worked out with the 30-year-old playing just 9% of minutes and his valuation has dropped by €13m to €22m. Ten players in total dropped by €10m and they are all household names and full internationals – including four Man City stars. Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva were all downgraded by €10m as were Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Matthijs de Ligt. Two Arsenal stars joined the aforementioned players in Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus, while James Maddison and Ollie Watkins also fell.
