The Nations League has reached it’s knockout stages again with the quarter-finals taking place this week. The Netherlands will play Spain, Portugal will go head-to-head with Denmark, France will face Croatia, and Italy will take on Germany. It’s only the fourth edition of the new competition, which was brought in to drive out extra meaningless friendlies. Portugal won the inaugural tournament in 2019, with France victorious in 2021, and Spain the current holders having won the 2023 edition. All three of those sides remain in the hunt for a second trophy. But which goalscorers have shone in the modern international competition? At Transfermarkt, we have calculate the all-time top Nations League scorers since it was introduced in 2019.
Unsurprisingly, currently leading the way is Norway goal-machine Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker has 19 goals in 16 Nations League matches for Norway. Unfortunately Norway aren’t in the quarter-finals so he won’t have a chance to extend his lead at the top. In second place is Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrović, with 15 goals in 16 Nations League games. He is followed in third by Cristiano Ronaldo. The legendary 40 year old has 12 goals in 16 Nations League matches, and will be hoping to add more against Denmark this week. Fourth goes to Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku, who has 10 goals in 10 games.
In fifth position is Sweden’s prolific striker Viktor Gyökeres, who has 10 goals in 11 games. He is followed in sixth by Kosovan Vedat Muriqi with 10 goals in 18 matches. Seventh goes to Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Džeko, who has nine goals in 19 games. Then it’s Luxembourg’s Danel Sinani with nine in 23. Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko is ninth with eight goals in 12 games, with Montenegro forward Stefan Mugosa completing the top ten with eight goals in 17 matches.
