It’s been a busy day at Celtic Park with one hero departing and another fan favourite returning to the Scottish Premiership champions. Kyogo Furuhashi has departed Celtic to join French club Rennes with Jota moving in the opposite direction. Kyogo has been a revelation since joining the Glasgow giants from Vissel Kobe for €5.4m in 2021 with the Japanese striker scoring 85 goals in 165 appearances.
But Celtic have decided to cash in on the 30-year-old for a considerable profit with Rennes paying €10m after Kyogo expressed a desire to leave. The Parkhead faithful’s sadness in losing one of their favourite players has been softened by the return of Jota. The Portuguese winger departed for Al-Ittihad in July 2023 with Celtic eventually making €29.1m from his sale but they’ve paid just €10m to the Ligue 1 club bring him back to Parkhead.
The 25-year-old has penned a five-and-a-half-year contract and expressed his delight to be back in Glasgow. He said: “It’s very nostalgic for me because it was such an amazing feeling and all the moments that I felt through my two seasons here, and I’m just delighted to be back. I’m really excited and I just can’t wait to start. The best thing in Glasgow, besides Celtic obviously, is the people and I feel like I need a place with soul, where I feel at home. This is definitely something I was looking for, and I think there is no better match than Celtic.”
