After the Premier League and Ligue 1, the Bundesliga is the third top-five league to be updated by Transfermarkt. Overall, 119 players in Germany’s top division received new market values in this intermediary update. Among the top five players, only Leroy Sané received an upgrade. After struggling with fitness for months now, the Bayern Munich winger saw his market value drop by €10m, falling behind his new teammate Michael Olise, whose market value increased by €10m, replacing Sané in the new top 5 of the most valuable Bundesliga players.
“Straightaway, Olise has become a crucial player for Bayern Munich and impressed with some extraordinary performances,” Transfermarkt Bundesliga market value admin Tobias Kröger said. “If he continues this way, the upgrade will likely be just an in-between step for the 22-year-old.” Olise started the season with three goals and five assists in eight games across all competitions, and as a result, the 18.2% upgrade to €65m is only consequential for the former Crystal Palace star.
The rise of Olise, in fact, has meant that Sané has had a hard time nailing down a starting position after struggling with minor injuries at the end of last season and throughout the Euros. “Leroy Sané has had an unfortunate year 2024,” Kröger said. “He only scored one goal in the entire calendar year and has been out of form for months. The 28-year-old also failed to make an impression at the Euros. The general issue appears to be his inability to stay fit, which has been again an issue this season. As a result, he is no longer Bayern’s most valuable winger.” Sané saw his market value drop by 14.4% to €60m.
Bundesliga market values: Pavlović and Wanner up – Reyna downgraded
There have been some other changes in Bayern Munich’s squad. After a summer of transfer speculations, winger Kingsley Coman saw his market value downgraded by 20% from €50m to €40m. Despite starting regularly, whether Coman will have a long-term future at the Munich club remains to be seen. The same can’t be said about Aleksandar Pavlovic. The central midfielder came out of nowhere last season and is already considered the natural successor of legend Toni Kroos in the Germany squad. A crucial player for Bayern, Pavlovic’s market value increased by 66.7% from €30m to €50m.
Not at Bayern yet, but without a big part of the club’s future is Heidenheim’s attacking midfielder Paul Wanner. “Wanner is one of the biggest attacking talents in Germany, and it is only a matter of time for him to be called up by the national team,” Kröger said. “The 18-year-old is already one of Heidenheim’s most important players. Undoubtedly, he will return to Bayern Munich at the end of the season.” Wanner’s start to the season has been indeed impressive. The playmaker has scored five goals and two assists in eight games across all competitions this season, earning a market value upgrade of 87.5% from €8m to €15m.
Over at Borussia Dortmund, another former top talent continues to struggle with fitness. “Giovanni Reyna remains Dortmund’s biggest problem child,” Kröger said. “There is no doubt about his talent, but the American is headed from injury to injury, and his loan to the Premier League was a disaster. He has to watch out that he isn’t going to waste his career. A change of scenery might be beneficial for him.” Indeed, Reyna has managed just nine minutes of playing time this season for Dortmund and is currently out with a groin injury. With all that in mind, Transfermarkt had no alternative to downgrade the US men’s national team playmaker by 33.3% from €18m to €12m, his lowest market value since February 2020, when Reyna received his initial evaluation.
Market values in Germany: Gittens up – Millot most valuable Stuttgart player
It wasn’t all bad news at Dortmund, however. Wingers Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Gittens (both +€7m to €35m) received significant market value upgrades this time. “Gittens is a technically gifted player who has played himself into the spotlight over the last few weeks,” Kröger said. “He has scored spectacular goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League. If he continues this development, Gittens will likely see his market value rise even further very soon.”
Over in Stuttgart, French winger Enzo Millot has been one of the most spectacular players in the Bundesliga. “Millot is one of the season’s standout players,” Kröger said. “He stood out in the big games against Dortmund, Real Madrid, or at the final in the Olympic Games this summer. It is only a matter of time until top clubs try to sign him.” As a result, Millot’s market value has gone up by an impressive €12m to now €42m, making him the most valuable player in VfB Stuttgart’s squad ahead of star striker Deniz Undav (+3m to €28m) and German national team midfielder Angelo Stiller (+€8m to €28m).
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
