With one matchday to go before the winter break, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 493 Bundesliga players, and the two most valuable players in the league became even more valuable. While Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz remain the league’s biggest stars, England captain Harry Kane saw his market value drop below the €100m benchmark.
“Although Kane has been excellent, his first age-related downgrade was unavoidable,” Transfermarkt Bundesliga market value admin Tobias Kröger said. “Despite the downgrade, Kane remains €30m ahead of Bernardo Silva in the category of most valuable players above 30.” Indeed, Kane’s market value downgrade remains minimal. The 31-year-old striker drops by just 10% from €100m to €90m.
With that market value, Kane remains the second most valuable player at Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga overall. Ahead of the striker at Bayern is only Musiala, who, together with his friend Wirtz, remains at the very top. “Wirtz and Musiala have made another step in their development this season,” Kröger said. “After fantastic performances in the Bundesliga, Wirtz also shows his potential in the Champions League. Musiala has been carrying Bayern’s attack. Among fans and experts, Musiala is the most important player at Bayern on whom everything is dependent on at the club.” With all that in mind, both stars saw their market value improve by 7.7% from €130m to €140m.

While Kane sees his market value drop, his compatriot Jamie Gittens has taken Borussia Dortmund by storm. “Gittens has drawn attention with strong performances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season,” Kröger said. “He managed to show his qualities against top teams like Bayern and Real Madrid. His tempo, qualities in one-v-one situations, and his finishing abilities mean that he is a player with a high potential of a big fee. He is also an interesting player for the English market.” With that in mind, Gittens sees his market value improve by 42.9% from €35m to €50m to become the most valuable player at Borussia Dortmund.
Up by even more, 50%, is Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian makes a significant jump in market value for the second time in a row. In October, Marmoush saw his market value increase by €18m from €22m to €40m. This time around the market value jump isn’t quite as big, just €20m to now €60m. As a result, Marmoush is now firmly established among the ten most valuable Bundesliga players. And it is only consequential. The Egyptian has scored 18 goals and 12 assists in 23 games across all competitions this season and is the main reason Frankfurt are currently in third place in the Bundesliga. If he keeps up this form, a move to a bigger club is only a question of time.
Also among the winners are Marmoush’s teammates Hugo Ekitike and Hugo Larsson. While Ekitike is up by 33.3% from €30m to €40m and Larsson by 25% from €28m to €35m. The two Frankfurt stars aren’t the only ones with big upgrades. In fact, they aren’t even close to the most significant upgrades by percentage in this year’s Bundesliga update. Ranked second in terms of biggest increase by percentage is Nnamdi Collins, with a market value upgrade of 300% from €1m to €4m. Also, Nathaniel Brown is in the top 10 of players with the most significant increases by percentage. The 21-year-old left-back, signed for just €3m from Nürnberg last January and then joined Frankfurt after a loan back in the summer, has been one of the biggest discoveries this season. The U21 German national team player with a US passport sees his market value increase by 166.7% from €3m to €8m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
