Patrick Kluivert is reportedly set to be appointed as the new manager of Indonesia. Since his retirement from football in 2009, Kluivert has taken up various coaching roles and was also academy director at Barcelona for almost two years. The 48-year-old also managed internationally with Curaçao but he only lasted five months in his last managerial role at Adana Demirspor.
But the Indonesia FA have decided that the former Barcelona and AC Milan striker is the man to lead them after sacking Shin Tae-Yong. On Monday, Indonesian football director Erick Thohir confirmed the dismissal of Tae-Young, stating: “We see the need for a leader who is better able to implement the strategies agreed upon by the players, and who has better communication.” Thohir also confirmed they’d found a replacement – understood to be Kluivert – and there will be a press conference on January 12th.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Kulivert has already agreed a two-year deal with the target of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Indonesia currently rank third out of six teams in Group C of the Asian qualifications behind Australia and Japan.
