It’s been a captivating 2024 in the world of football with two major international tournaments and brand new formats across European club competitions. The top five leagues returned after a busy summer transfer window with Barcelona leading the way in Spain, Liverpool enjoying an excellent start under Arne Slot and Bayern Munich aiming to recover their Bundesliga crown from Bayer Leverkusen.
There’s still so much football to be played this season but Transfermarkt has recently provided market value updates for every major league across the world. The headline news across the October updates was Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior moving to €200 million as the most valuable duo on the planet. While some players’ valuations have soared across the calendar year, others have plummeted due to poor form and other factors. So which players have received the biggest market value downgrades since January 1st? Let’s find out!
One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer involved Victor Osimhen with the Nigerian international eventually joining Galatasaray on-loan after a protracted move to Chelsea collapsed. The 25-year-old started 2024 with a valuation of €110m but he received a €10m downgrade in Serie A’s June update and his market value dropped by a further €25m after moving to Istanbul. Osimhen’s valuation drop was justified by his move to the Turkish Süper Lig and the fact Napoli would sanction a permanent sale for €75m.
Randal Kolo Muani ranks second with a €30m drop in valuation across 2024 with the French international struggling for minutes at PSG this season. Four players have dropped in value by €25m this year, including two Bayern Munich players Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich. Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli has failed to reach his potential recently with the Brazilian joined by two further Premier League players in the top ten – Evan Ferguson and Federico Chiesa.
