It’s been a festival of football this summer with two major international tournaments. Euro 2024 is well underway with the knockout stages on the horizon and the group stages have been thrilling with an abundance of stunning goals.
Copa América kicked off last week with fierce rivals Argentina and Brazil aiming to lift the trophy in the United States. Argentina kicked off with a 2-0 win over Canada, while Brazil were held to a 0-0 draw by Costa Rica. Some of the biggest stars are involved across the tournaments and we produced the most valuable XI from both Euro 2024 and Copa América. But how do both these sides compare and who would make the combined XI across both tournaments?
The Euro 2024 combined XI featured five players from England, two from France and Portugal, plus one from Croatia and Spain. The most valuable combined XI has a total market value of €1.235bn, which is €319 more than the Copa América version. Only two players from participating in the Copa America would make it into the combined XI from both tournaments – Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde.
Diogo Costa is the joint most valuable goalkeeper in the world and the Portugal No.1’s valuation is €12m higher than Alisson. The back four would be composed of all European players with William Saliba and Rúben Dias the two most valuable centre-backs on the planet at €80m with both players valued €10m higher than Ronald Araujo and Gabriel. Valverde, Declan Rice and Rodri are all valued at €120m but the Manchester City star is three years older and misses out. Jude Bellingham remains as the attacking midfielder with Vinicius and Foden on the wings behind French superstar Kylian Mbappé. Three of the four most valuable players in the world – Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius – feature in the combined XI with a market value of €1.275 billion.
