There’s little doubt that 2024 has already been an outstanding year for football and at Transfermarkt that has been reflected in the arrival of a number of stars for fans around the world to enjoy. And there’s still so much football left to be played, before fans begin looking ahead to who will be the next big star of tomorrow. With most of European football’s top leagues having played 10 or less games of the new season, plenty can certainly change between now and the end of the year. But before they do, we wanted to take note of the players that have gained the most market value since January 1, 2024. So let’s take a look at the list and see which players have outshone all others over the course of the last 10 months.
Following Transfermarkt’s market value updates of every major league across the world, several emerging stars have seen significant increases in their valuations. To very little surprise following his success with Spain at Euro 2024 and his growing influence at Barcelona, highly-rated winger Lamine Yamal tops the list with a remarkable €90 million increase in market value, raising his total value to €150m. His standout performances have caught the attention of the global community, solidifying his status as one of Europe’s brightest prospects. To the delight of Barcelona fans, Yamal beats out Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, who has so far had to settle for second on our list for 2024, having seen his market value increase by €50m to €200m. Although, having won the Champions League with Real Madrid this year and seen his market value match the most valuable players in the world in the most recent LaLiga market value update, the Brazilian winger may not be too disappointed to take second place in this particular contest.
The next three players on the list certainly underline the importance of giving young players a chance at the highest level, with each star breaking through into first team football and making a name for themselves at their respective clubs in 2024. In fifth place is England and Chelsea star Cole Palmer, whose market value has almost doubled over the course of the calendar year, rising by €40m to where it now stands at €90m. He is beaten to fourth place by Bayern Munich and Germany star Aleksandar Pavlovic, who made the daring attempt to escape Bayern’s youth teams and nail down a starting role in the club’s first team. Not only has the defensive midfielder done exactly that, but he looks certain to be a mainstay in midfield for club and country for years to come. As such, his market value has risen by €48m in 2024. But both are beaten to third place by none other than Manchester United and England star Kobbie Mainoo, whose market value has risen by €49m and an incredible 817% thanks to his performances for club and country.
