Chelsea will inherit a potential superstar when Estêvão finally moves to Stamford Bridge next summer from Palmeiras. Several European clubs attempted to sign the Brazilian wonderkid but Chelsea won the race for his signature in June for an initial €34 million fee, that could surpass €50m in add-ons.
Estêvão is widely viewed as the next big star of Brazilian football following in the footsteps of Neymar, Vinicius Junior and Endrick in making the move to a top European club. Chelsea have targeted the best youngsters in the world to assemble a youthful squad littered with talent with Estêvão already interacting with Cole Palmer and copying his trademark celebration. And this weekend, the 17-year-old made history as he moved clear of Neymar to become the player the most goal contributions in one Série A season before their 18th birthday.
Estêvão scored and assisted in Palmeiras’ 5-3 win over Juventude on Sunday night to reach 18 goal contributions in 24 games this season in the Brazilian top-flight. The prodigiously talented teenager has scored ten goals and provided eight assists, which he’s almost certain to add to with the Serie A season ending in December. As the graphic below shows, Estêvão moved ahead of Neymar with the Brazilian legend registering 16 goal contributions during the 2009 season for Santos.
The top ten list is littered with famous faces with Endrick ranking third after scoring 11 goals for Palmeiras last season before joining Real Madrid. Endrick’s teammates at the Santiago Bernabeu, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo also feature in the list with current Granada star Reinier completing the top five.
