Mikel Arteta is set to face the press after Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

It was a frustrating first half for the Gunners who had 248 passes in the final third to Forest’s eight but created precious little opportunities. Perhaps the best one fell to Bukayo Saka whose goalbound snap shot was deflected wide after some nice work in the box from Emile Smith Rowe.

Their superiority continued in the second half, but when Gabriel Jesus smacked the inside of the post following a well worked move you began to wonder if it could be a repeat of the frustrating defeats to West Ham and Liverpool. Eventually though Arsenal found a way.

A moment of quick thinking from Alex Zinchenko at a throw in played Jesus. The Brazilian then poked between Matt Turner’s legs to put Arsenal in front.

Bukayo Saka then doubled Arsenal’s lead not long after after being played through by Jesus on a quick counter attack. At that point it seemed like the Gunners would coast to victory.

Again though Taiwo Awoniyi popped up with a late goal to make it a nervy ending for Arsenal. The Gunners though were able to survive a late barrage for a crucial win.

You can hear what Mikel Arteta has to say about all that and much more with football.london’s chief Arsenal correspondent in our live blog below.

Arteta on White and Zinchenko argument

I love it. They are demanding more. They are just trying to resolve it. Playing the way we played the result has to be bigger.

Arteta on if his team are guilty of wanting to score the perfect goal

We hit the post, Gabi has two headers, Emile has another chances. The ugly goal and the bouncing ball can happen. They have to make those decisions.

Arteta on Jesus knee problem

I don’t know. He got hit big time in the last game. His knee reacted and it’s the knee he had before. He was super positive and I’m not surprised with the way he played tonight.

Arteta on motivation from last year’s defeat

I really needed it. I could feel that they were talking about it. They were really active they were really invested and they were ready for it.

Arteta on the game

Yes. I’m really happy with the performance and the result. What happened last year was still in our tummy. The performance was good, we had to be patient, we were able to generate chances in various ways which is pleasing. We conceded a goal and then you had to suffer.

Jesus react to the game

On what Arteta said at half time

First of all, to keep trying, in the first half we did so well, but unfortunately we didn’t score but we controlled the game. The best way to control them is keeping the ball. We did well in the first half but we kept doing the same for the second half and then we eventually scored.

On his form

It’s all about trust, I arrived with the patience and desire to improve and I think I’m doing good, unfortunately I’ve been injured, no player wants this, but I’m working hard and doing everything I can on the pitch. The support of my team-mates is so good, today I was a little bit unlucky, but I scored one and created another, so I’m happy.

Player ratings

A good night for Jesus whose persistence was finally rewarded with a goal. It’s his name the Arsenal fans sing at full time. Smith Rowe’s brightness on his first start since October another plus.
