Mikel Arteta is set to face the press after Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Brentford at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners continued their fine recent form with a fast start to the match going close through Leandro Trossard in the first two minutes.

Eventually the breakthrough came when Declan Rice surged into the box to superbly head home Ben White’s floated cross. The Gunners continued to be well on top but found themselves pegged back on the stroke of half time.

Having received a pass back from Gabriel under little to no pressure Aaron Ramsdale saw his clearance closed down by Yoane Wissa and deflected into the net.

That set up a nervous second half for Arsenal. They went close through Gabriel and had a good penalty shout for a foul on Leandro Trossard turned down.

Eventually though the Gunners got the goal they needed as Kai Havertz headed home Ben White’s cross to send his side to the top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

You can hear what Mikel Arteta has to say on all that and much more with football.london’s chief Arsenal correspondent Kaya Kaynak in our live blog below.

Arteta on the win

It felt great. Obviously we had to dig in and earn the right to win it. I’m really pleased with how we overcame difficulties. If you want to be up there you have to win these types of games.

Arteta on Ramsdale

He did exactly what he is which is a person with huge personality and courage. Errors are part of football. It’s how you react to it and he did so in an amazing way. I’m not surprised. We really wanted to win for him.

Arteta on Havertz

If somebody told me after the first two or three months that the whole stadium would be singing his song with that passion I would have found it hard to believe. That’s what happens to good people.

Promising stat

Arsenal are only the fourth side to win each of their first eight Premier League games of a calendar year. The previous three all went on to win the title that year (Manchester United in 2009, Liverpool in 2020, Manchester City in 2021).

Player ratings

Another outstanding display from Delcan Rice. Influential in every part of the game today. Thought Ramsdale recovered well after the error although fully ready for people to disagree. Havertz meanwhile with another important goal.
